User guide / Availability
Availability and the desktop calendar
Your busy time, kept in one place, plus a desktop week view like Google Calendar.
Availability is Bettersubbook's list of the times you're busy. Best Available checks open shifts against it. It's filled from your calendar, imported files, calendar links, and anything you add by hand.
The Availability screen
Open Settings → Availability. There are two kinds of entries:
| Kind | What it is |
|---|---|
| One-off | A specific date and time block. A single one shows as a plain line (date, time, title). |
| Recurring | A weekday, time and optional end date. Created by weekly classes in your calendar, or by you. |
Repeating entries share one card with a Repeated N times badge and an expand arrow ▾ that reveals every date. A one-off set that shares the same weekday, time and title is grouped the same way. That's just a display grouping; nothing changes in storage.
- Edit all changes the whole series: day, time, end date, label.
- Edit beside a single date opens the same series editor. There's one stored rule, not one per date.
- Remove all deletes the entry (with an Undo toast).
Adding blocked time by hand
Use this for things that aren't on any calendar: a standing commitment, a commute, a club meeting.
- Open Add blocked timeAt the bottom of the Availability screen.
- One-off or weekly? For a single time, pick a Date. Turn on Repeat weekly (“Blocks this time every week”) to pick a Day of week and an optional Through date instead.
- Set the timesFill in Starts and Ends, plus an optional Label.
- Add itIt's saved right away and used by the next sort.
Clear all availability wipes both calendar-detected and manual blocks (with a confirmation). Your shifts and Review items stay untouched.
The desktop calendar
For a bigger view, press Open desktop calendar on the Availability screen. (There's also a link after every import.) It's a week view in its own tab:
- Orange blocks are your shifts, gray blocks are other busy time, open space is the page color.
- Use Today and the ‹ › arrows to move around. Checkboxes show or hide Shifts and Availability.
- Click and drag on an open spot to block time (or just click for an hour). A small box lets you name it (the default is “Busy”), adjust the times, tick Repeat every weekday, and choose a Through date.
- Click a block you made to delete it (or Delete every Tuesday for a repeating one).
- Calendar-sourced blocks are read-only. Clicking a shift reminds you it's edited in the popup.
It reads the same storage as the popup, so changes appear in both immediately.
