Short, practical answers organized by what you're trying to do.

Each recipe is a few steps. Click one to open it.

Find an open shift that doesn't clash with my classes
  1. Bring your schedule in (any method) so Bettersubbook knows your busy time.
  2. On Unfilled Requests, press Filter / Sort, choose Best Available, then Show results.
  3. Green rows are free. To hide the rest, also tick Hide unavailable shifts.
Pick up the shift right after (or before) mine
  1. Make sure the shift you already have is saved in Bettersubbook.
  2. Open Filter / Sort and choose Shifts with overlap, then Show results.
  3. Every row shown is free and starts as yours ends (or ends as yours starts) at the same place. Why
Add my weekly shift once instead of every week
  1. Press + in the popup header.
  2. Fill in the date, times, position and location.
  3. Tick Permanent shift and press Save shift. You get one shift per week for about five months.

Or let a scan find it: approve the repeating stack in Review.

See only shifts at one location

In Learn to Swim, open Filter / Sort, tick the location(s) under Location and press Show results. In Aquatics the panel offers a Role filter (LG / HLG) instead. Use the search box to find a place by name in either department.

Stop a class from showing up as a shift

In the Review tab press Skip on it. Skipped events are remembered and count as busy time from then on. For better detection in the future, avoid role words and place names in class event titles, or put the place after a course code.

Fix a shift with the wrong role or location

Before approving, change the Role and Location dropdowns in Review. After saving, open the shift on the Shifts tab → ⋯ → Edit, change it, and press Save.

Request a shift with one press

Open the Subbook site and sign in, then press Autofill request in the popup. Check the confirmation box, press Fill fields, review the form, and press Submit yourself. Details

Start a new semester
  1. Export your calendar again and re-import it. The old busy time for that calendar is replaced.
  2. If you use a calendar link or linked account, press Scan again (links refresh hourly anyway).
  3. Approve the new shifts in Review. Delete old shifts from the Shifts tab, or use Data & reset → Clear saved shifts.
Use Bettersubbook with a school account that blocks apps

Use a calendar link or an imported file. Neither needs administrator approval or a sign-in.

Make the Subbook page easier to read
  • Raise Text size (Subbook page) in Settings.
  • Turn on Dark mode, or pick a high-contrast theme.
  • Switch the scene to None, or turn on Improve visibility to make the table plain and opaque.
Block time that isn't on any calendar

Open the desktop calendar and drag over the time you want blocked, or use Add blocked time on the Availability screen. Tick the repeat option for something weekly.

Start over cleanly

Go to Settings → Data & reset. Use Clear saved shifts, Clear availability, Reset all settings, or Clear all saved data. Each asks for confirmation first. See Your data and privacy.

Replay the setup tour

Settings → Welcome tour.
