Troubleshooting
Find your symptom, read the likely cause, try the fix.
On the Subbook page
I don't see the search bar or Filter / Sort button
- They only appear on the Unfilled Requests page. Make sure you're there.
- Make sure you're signed in to Subbook, then reload the page.
- Check that the extension is enabled in your browser's extensions page.
Best Available or Shifts with overlap is grayed out
These need something to compare against. Bring in a schedule, add blocked time, or save at least one shift. They turn on as soon as one exists.
Hide unavailable shifts is grayed out
It only works together with Best Available. Select that sort first.
My filters didn't do anything
Nothing in the panel takes effect until you press Show results.
Sorting only affects part of the list
Subbook shows rows in pages, and Bettersubbook sorts the page you're on. Move to another page and apply it there.
Autofill isn't filling the form
- Press Autofill from the popup's Shifts tab on the shift you want.
- Make sure the Subbook tab is open and you're signed in.
- Reload the Subbook page and try again.
- If Subbook changed its page layout, autofill can stop working until Bettersubbook is updated. Please report it.
The page looks odd or the animation slows my browser
Open Settings → Themes & scenes and set the scene to None, or turn on Improve visibility for a plain table. Dark mode and text size are separate switches in the same place.
Bringing in a schedule
The scan found nothing
- Events before today are ignored, and Google scans about five months ahead.
- Check Calendars to scan in Calendar settings: an unchecked calendar is never read.
- Cancelled, declined, “free” and all-day events are skipped.
- If you've skipped something before, it won't come back.
A real shift didn't appear in Review, or a non-shift did
Detection is a best guess based on words in the title, description and location. Add the missing shift by hand with +, or press Skip on the wrong one. Putting the role and place in event titles helps (see How shifts are detected).
A shift has the wrong role or location
Change the dropdowns in Review before approving, or edit the saved shift later from ⋯ → Edit.
The Approve button is disabled
It needs a role and a location (inservices only need a role). Choose them in the dropdowns on the card.
The popup closed when I signed in
That's normal: browsers close popups when a sign-in window opens. Bettersubbook finishes the link and scan in the background. Reopen the popup and the Calendar card shows “Scanning…” or the result.
“The last scan didn't finish”
The card tells you why. Often it's an expired sign-in. Press Scan again and sign in if asked. If you're offline, try again once you're connected.
Microsoft sign-in is blocked or says it needs an administrator
Work and school accounts, like a university's, may require an administrator to approve apps that read calendars. Use a calendar link or import a file instead. Neither needs approval.
My calendar link shows an error
The message says why: the address returns a web page instead of a calendar, 404 (not found), needs a sign-in, or can't be reached. Re-copy the link from your calendar app. Your last good results are kept while a link is failing.
My schedule looks wrong on another computer
Data stays in the browser where you added it and doesn't sync. On another computer, import or link your calendar again.
The popup
The popup opens on a different screen than I expected
It remembers the screen and scroll position you last used and restores them for 30 minutes. After that it opens on Shifts.
I deleted something by accident
Press Undo on the toast that appears right after. It stays for a few seconds. After it disappears, re-add or re-scan to bring things back.
A shift says “Removed from your calendar?”
It disappeared from a linked calendar. Choose Keep it to leave the saved shift alone, or Remove to delete it.
Still stuck?
Use the support form and tell us what you expected, what happened, and which calendar app you use. Please don't include passwords or private calendar links. Contact support, or see the general FAQ.
